Inspired by Michel Foucault’s analysis of the panopticon. An experiment was created to explore the contemporary attitude toward overt hyper surveillance. A room was constructed and placed inside were multiple cameras and microphones all pointed toward a single chair in the center of the room. A subject enters the room alone, unaware of what they were walking into. The only instruction given was to enter and remain in the room until I gave them the signal they could leave. While they were in the room they were told they could do what ever they wanted. The result is a realtime account of a conscious reaction to being confronted with extreme surveillance. 2024.
